Job Order Contracting (JOC) is a construction delivery solution that gives facility owners an easy-to-use framework to efficiently tackle facility complexities and effectively plan, budget, and execute projects with detailed scopes controlled by the client. JOC helps facility owners manage the natural complexity of operating facilities requiring renovation, repairs, upgrades and improvements, as well as multiple new construction projects with wide variations in technical complexity.

Today, we hold more than 60 active JOC or indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity (IDIQ) contracts and continue to complete projects with a wide variety of size, scope, and complexity.

On many projects, Centennial provides preconstruction services to add value through greater collaboration on designing, scheduling, selecting material, and competitively procuring needed services. Our services continue through facility commissioning and warranty, assuring continued value for our clients beyond project completion.

Aviation Academy for Newport News Public Schools - A Job Order Contract Success Story

The Aviation Academy is one of the magnate programs for Newport News Public Schools and attracts approximately 250 students and instructors.  The program teaches piloting, aircraft maintenance, engineering, and aviation security/safety to ninth graders, and involves access to everything aviation related including drones, 3D printers, a virtual reality lab, and a wind tunnel.  As a long-term partner to Newport News Public Schools, Centennial was asked in March 2020, right before the COVID-19 pandemic, to take on this important build out as a fast-track design build project.

The project was completed on time and within the customer’s budget, giving the students at Newport News Public Schools a new state-of-the-art facility complete with complex learning systems and unique design elements to elevate their enjoyment of the space and stimulate their interest in all things aviation.  All parties involved in this project celebrated the success with a ribbon cutting and Centennial received accolades for our design and construction of this high profile space, including a letter from the client to Centennial’s project manager acknowledging the dedication and effort imparted to achieve this project within the given schedule.  This project was also awarded an Excellence in Construction Award from the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) in Virginia.
