Centennial’s McGrew and Duobinis Discuss Subcontractor Relationships at WDIC

RESTON, VA—March 1, 2010— Scott McGrew, senior project general manager and Vince Duobinis, senior director of market development for Centennial Contractors Enterprises, spoke to a group of 20 small minority-owned and women-owned subcontractors at Washington Development Industry Council (WDIC).

The presentation identified what requirements prime contractors such as Centennial look for when hiring subcontractors for design-build projects. McGrew also fielded a lot of questions from the group about challenges small minority-owned subcontractors face when working with large general contractors.

The WDIC works to increase the size, scope and scale of certified business enterprises in the real estate development, architecture and engineering and construction industries through sustainable growth. This meeting was designed to help its member gain employment with large general contractors. Skanska, Clark Construction and Hensel Phelps also presented to the group.

When Centennial hires subcontractors to work on its design-build projects or job order contracts, it bases its decision requirements such as on the subcontractor’s safety records, the type of work performed and the subcontractor’s quality standards and reliability.

“We suggested provide something unique to stand out from other subcontractors and if they’re not successful the first time to continue applying for future projects,” says Duobinis.
