Centennial CEO Launches New Sustainability Challenge

VIENNA, VA— April 22, 2009— Centennial Contractors Enterprises is celebrating Earth Day by kicking off its President’s 2009 Green Challenge. The contest is designed to further Centennial’s commitment to sustainability by putting into the company’s overall philosophy into daily practice.

Centennial President, Mark Bailey announced the contest last month during the annual Leadership Conference. “We have a huge opportunity to make an impact,” said Bailey. “We currently work in 17 states, in 60,000 buildings and that is all growing. Our ability to help with sustainable thinking at these existing facilities is large and will have impact.”

Centennial’s regional offices and corporate office will form teams to define and implement sustainability solutions internally and externally. The practices will be reviewed by an outside panel in early 2010 on several criteria including: ability to integrate across multiple customers; is quantifiable, potential impact on our organization; is on-going and sustainable; creative and innovative; effort results in team building, etc.

The top three job sites will receive cash awards of $10,000, $5,000 and $2,500 respectively, a portion of which must be given back to the local community.

“Launching this President’s Green Challenge will extend Earth Day to all year at Centennial,” said Debra Dowden Crockett, Centennial’s executive sponsor of sustainability.

In addition to safety, sustainability is Centennial’s top initiative. It currently employs over 10% and growing of its work force are LEED® Accredited Professionals and have worked on numerous sustainable construction projects around the county including the Ft. Bragg Courthouse, Lake Washington School District and Ft. Lewis. Centennial Sustainability Mission Statement is available at http://www.cce-inc.com/sustainability.html

“We are building sustainability into our culture as we have done with safety,” Bailey stated in his address. “We need to do what it takes to do the right thing for our families, for our company, for our customers and for our country.” In addition to the President’s Green Challenge, Centennial has launched a Green Council made up of members from cross functional teams within Centennial and also the creation of Sustainability Program Officers at every site across the U.S.
